Neither Spotify nor Apple Music lets any artist — human or AI-assisted — upload directly. Every track on both platforms arrives through a distributor, and that step is exactly the same whether the recording was made in a studio or generated with a prompt.
Step 1: pick a distributor
A distributor is a service that packages your audio file and metadata and submits it to Spotify, Apple Music and other DSPs on your behalf, usually for a flat annual fee or a percentage of royalties. This is a separate business from your music generator — Autunes generates the song, a distributor gets it onto streaming platforms.
Step 2: make sure you actually have the rights
Distributors require you to confirm you own or control the rights to what you are submitting. On Autunes, Pro and Creator include full ownership and a commercial licence for everything you make, with 0% royalties. On the free plan, a song becomes yours to release once you buy its download (₹9, priced locally outside India); and after any single payment of ₹99 or more, every song you make after that downloads free with the same rights. A free-plan song you have only listened to in the app is not licensed for distribution.
Step 3: get the metadata right
Every track needs an artist name, track title, release date, songwriter and publishing information, and an ISRC code (your distributor typically assigns this). Getting these fields wrong is the most common reason a release gets delayed or rejected, and it has nothing to do with the track being AI-made.
- Use a consistent artist name across releases so listeners and algorithms can build a profile for you.
- Fill in songwriter credit fields even for an AI-assisted track — you are typically the credited writer/creator of record.
- Double-check the ISRC and release date before final submission; these are hard to change after the track goes live.
Step 4: check disclosure requirements
Streaming platforms have started introducing ways to disclose AI involvement in a recording — how prominent this is, and whether it is mandatory, varies by platform and is changing over time. Read your chosen distributor's current guidance and the platform's content policy before you submit, rather than relying on what was true a year ago.
